I’m a sucker for anything cute and furry that comes in day-glow colors. So when Klutz offered me a Pom-Pom Monster Salon craft-making kit to review, I said sure. Plus, I knew my granddaughters would love them, too.
This new Klutz kit includes everything you need to make stylish one-of-a-kind pom-poms and it’s easy enough for an 8-year old to do all by herself. The minute I showed it to my granddaughter, she was tearing open the box and looking at all the goodies that come with the five balls of day-glow yarn (pink, purple, lime, orange, turquoise): the styling comb, the itty-bitty bows, the silly teeth and eyes, and the footwear. All you need to supply is a pair of scissors.
My granddaughter spent over two hours creating and styling her first two pom-poms. She made braids for one and fluffed up the other one’s hair. The instruction books comes with illustrations of funny little monsters called Ahhh!-Fro, Monster Mop Top, Igor Ears, and Frankenfurry Eyebrows.
The photos, illustrations and directions make it easy to get right into the fun. You can also watch a 48-second YouTube video that shows you exactly how to use the plastic pom-pom maker to make one of these adorable little creatures. The kit also provides a nice opportunity to work on math skills by measuring yarn and counting how many times you wrap the yarn around the pom-pom maker.

I did this with a 9-year-old grandson and a 7-year-old granddaughter, and they both loved it and made an uber cool creation!
Looks like a fun craft for a rainy or snowy day, and I like the idea of incorporating some math into it!
